How do I configure target settings for a key metric?

You configure target settings from Manage → Targets by opening Target settings on a key metric, then choosing the target period, which levels can have targets (user / team / department / company), and any automation such as default targets and auto‑copy.

Role
Admin, or Manager with permissions for the level you want to set targets on

Plan
All plans

Prerequisites / who this applies to

  • The key metric already exists under Organization → Key Metrics

  • You can open Manage → Targets

Step‑by‑step instructions

Step 1 – Open Targets

  1. Go to Manage → Targets to open the Targets overview.

Step 2 – Open Target settings for a key metric

  1. Find the key metric you want to configure.

  2. Click the three dots (⋯) on the right of that metric.

  3. Choose Target settings.

If the metric does not appear in the overview yet:

  • Click Add Target on Key Metric (top‑right).

  • Select the key metric, then return to Target settings.

Step 3 – Enable targets on the key metric

  1. Toggle on Should this key metric have a target?
    This reveals the configuration options.

Step 4 – Set the Period

  1. Under Period, choose how often you want targets for this metric:

    • Weekly

    • Monthly

    • Quarterly

    • Yearly

This defines the target periods the metric will use.

Step 5 – Choose Level & Rollup

  1. In Level & Rollup, toggle on the level(s) where you want to input targets directly:

    • User

    • Team

    • Department

    • Company

  2. Any level not enabled is shown as Summed from users (or from the level below) – that level becomes a rollup of targets from lower levels.

Example:

  • If only User is on, Team/Department/Company will be summed from user targets.

  • If Team is also on, you can enter team targets directly instead of just summing from users.

Step 6 – Configure Automation & Defaults (optional)

In Automation & Defaults you can:

  1. Default target for new users

    • Set What should be the default target for new users?

    • New users on this metric will start with this default instead of 0.

  2. Auto‑copy targets

    • Toggle Auto‑copy targets on to have targets automatically carried over to the next period when none are set.

    • This helps keep targets continuous without manual copying.

Step 7 – Save

  1. Click Save to apply your Target settings.

All future targets on this key metric will now follow the period, level & rollup, and automation rules you defined.

What if this doesn’t work?

I changed the period and my old targets look wrong
Existing targets are converted to the new period where possible, but they might not match your original intent. Always review targets after changing the period and adjust values if needed.

I set a team target manually and now it doesn’t update when I change user targets
Editing a summed target breaks the rollup link. To restore automatic summing:

  1. Delete the manually edited team target.

  2. The system will again sum the user targets for that level.

I can’t edit target settings on this metric
The metric is likely inherited from a higher level (for example from a parent company/organization). Target settings must be configured:

  • At the level where the key metric is defined, and

  • By someone with permissions at that level (typically a Company Admin).
