How do I create a Multi‑Round competition?

Create a Multi‑Round competition to let participants progress through several rounds with different goals or “Top X” rules.

Prerequisites / who this applies to

  • Competitions are enabled for your organization

  • You have access to Competitions → + New competition

  • Metrics you want to compete on (e.g. Revenue Sold) already exist

Step‑by‑step instructions

Step 1 – Open the Multi‑Round competition type

  1. Go to Competitions → + New competition.

  2. In the left Browse menu, click Multi‑Round.

Step 2 – Choose who is competing (Step 1)

  1. Under Step 1: Who is competing?, choose whether you compete on:

    • Users, Teams, Departments, or Custom Teams.

  2. Use the dropdown to select which users/teams are included (for example All users selected (44)).

Step 3 – Set dates and rounds (Step 2)

  1. Under Step 2: When is it?, set the overall start and end date/time for the competition.

  2. A Rounds popup opens:

    • Choose How many rounds do you want? (2, 3, 4 or 5).

    • For each Round 1, Round 2, Final round, set:

      • From / To dates and times.

      • What would you like to compete on?

        • Single metric (e.g. Revenue Sold), or

        • Multiple metrics (Points).

      • Qualify requirement:

        • Goal – hit a specific target, or

        • Top – be among the Top X.

    • Click Save when all rounds are configured.

Step 4 – Set Lifelines (Step 3 – optional)

  1. Back in the main view, under Step 3: Lifeline, choose how many lifelines participants can use (0 or more, depending on number of rounds).

    • Lifelines let participants move on even if they don’t meet the round requirement.

Step 5 – Choose prizes and winners (Step 4)

  1. Under Step 4: Choose your prizes and winners, click the row to configure:

    • How many prizes there are (e.g. 3 Prizes).

    • Which places/conditions win and how rewards (coins, etc.) are distributed.

Step 6 – Review advanced options (Step 5)

  1. Under Step 5: Review your advanced options, click Set advanced options.

  2. Adjust settings such as:

    • Visibility / privacy

    • Winner rules (best at end vs first to target)

    • Tie‑breakers

    • Optional winner announcement time

  3. Click Save when you’re done.

Step 7 – Add title, description and theme

  1. On the right side, enter a Title and Description for the competition.

  2. Optionally choose a Theme and Background image for screens.

Step 8 – Save or publish

  1. Click Save as draft if you want to review later, or Save and publish to start the competition.

  2. In the publish dialog, pick which playlists/screens, feeds and notifications to use, then confirm.

What happens next

  • The competition will run through each round using the dates, metrics and qualify rules you set.

  • Participants advance by:

    • Meeting the Goal or being in the Top X, or

    • Using a lifeline (if enabled).

  • Results update in real time and show who qualifies for each round and who reaches the final.

  • When the final round ends, winners are determined based on your prize and winner rules.

What if this doesn’t work?

I don’t see the Multi‑Round option in the competition types
You may not have Competition Admin / Company Admin access, or your plan may not include Multi‑Round competitions. Check with your admin or CSM.

I can’t open or edit the Rounds popup
Make sure you’ve set valid overall dates in Step 2: When is it?. If dates overlap incorrectly or end before they start, adjust them and try again.

Participants aren’t moving to the next round as expected
Check each round’s Qualify requirement (Goal/Top) and Lifeline settings. Remember that lifelines can move users forward even if they didn’t hit the requirement.

The wrong metric is used in a round
Open the competition, go back to the Rounds configuration, and click the metric area (e.g. Revenue Sold – Click to edit) to choose the correct metric or metric set.
