Blank, white or frozen screen – troubleshooting

If your TV shows a blank/white screen, freezes after a short time, or won't load the slideshow, the cause is usually the device or browser running the screen — use the steps below to get it live again.

Role: Company Admin or Screen Admin, plus physical access to the device
Plan: All plans

Prerequisites

  • The screen is created and has at least one playlist with slides connected

  • You can access the device running the screen (remote/keyboard as needed)

Why this happens

Most common causes of a blank, white or frozen screen:

  • Using a Smart TV built-in browser, which is unreliable (frequent cause of white screen after 30–60 seconds)

  • The TV app / browser needs updating

  • The cache needs clearing

  • The connection dropped and the screen needs reconnecting

  • No playlist/slides are connected (screen loads but shows nothing)

Step-by-step

Step 1 – Check what's running the screen. If you are using the Smart TV's built-in browser, for example by opening tv.salesscreen.com directly on a Samsung, LG or Tizen TV, this is the most common cause of blank, white or frozen screens. Switch to a dedicated device, such as Google TV Streamer (recommended) or Chromecast with Google TV.

Step 2 – Update the app / browser. Update the SalesScreen TV app to the latest version, or update the browser/device. On a Chromebox: uninstall the app (right-click → Uninstall), open Chrome, go to tv.salesscreen.com, and reinstall via the install icon in the address bar.

Step 3 – Clear the cache. On Google TV / Streamer: press Up on the remote during the slideshow → Clear cache. On a browser-based setup: hard-refresh the page.

Step 4 – Reconnect the screen. On the device, open the SalesScreen TV app to get a fresh 4-digit code. Then, in SalesScreen, go to Screens → Screens, select the screen, click Disconnect this screen, then Connect this screen, and enter the new code.

Step 5 – Confirm a playlist is connected. If the screen loads but shows a blank slideshow (no error), it may have no content. Go to Screens → Playlists and make sure a playlist with slides is assigned to that screen.

Step 6 – Restart the device. Unplug the device, wait a few seconds, plug it back in, and let the app reopen.

What if this doesn't work?

White screen after 30–60 seconds on a Smart TV. This is usually caused by Smart TV browser limitations. Switch to a dedicated device, such as Google TV Streamer.

Screen is stuck on a logo / won't start. After updates, startup can take longer — wait a minute. If still stuck, unplug the device, wait, and plug back in.

It works, then freezes repeatedly. This is likely caused by an unstable network or an ageing device, such as an older Chromecast. Try a wired connection or move to a Google TV Streamer.

Still blank after all steps. Contact SalesScreen Support with: the device type/model, the screen name, and whether you see a blank screen, an error, or an empty slideshow.
