Before you start

Make sure that:

  • You are a Company Admin or Screen Admin

  • Your company is on Essentials, Scale, Pro, or Enterprise

  • The slide is a Single metric slide

  • You know which metric and period the slide should use

  • You know whether the slide should use targets from Manage → Targets or a fixed Custom Goal

Note: Custom Goal is only available on Single metric slides.

Quick overview

A screen slide can show progress towards a target, for example how close your team is to this month’s sales goal.

The target can come from two places:

Targets: The slide uses the target set for the selected metric in Manage → Targets. Use this when the slide should follow the targets you already maintain.

Custom Goal: The slide uses a fixed number entered directly on the slide. Use this for a goal that only applies to this slide, for example a one-off team goal or a campaign target.

Open the slide editor

  1. In the left-hand menu, under Other, click Screens.

  2. Click the Slides tab.

  3. Find the slide you want to update.

  4. Use the Search field under Name, or filter by Type.

  5. Click the three-dots menu on the slide row.

  6. Click Edit.

Step 1 – Turn on target measurement

Find Measure towards target in the slide editor.

Set Measure towards target to Yes.

If this is set to No, the slide will not show progress towards a target.

Step 2 – Choose where the target comes from

Choose whether the slide should use targets from Manage → Targets or a fixed Custom Goal.

Use targets from Manage → Targets

Set Custom Goal to No.

The slide will use the target set for the selected metric in Manage → Targets.

To change the target value, update the target in Manage → Targets.

Use a fixed Custom Goal

Set Custom Goal to Yes.

Enter the target value in the field next to Custom Goal.

The slide will use this number as the target instead of the target from Manage → Targets.

Step 3 – Choose the layout

The layout controls how progress and the target are shown on the slide.

Number can show one combined progress view for the selected users, teams, or departments.

Bar shows users or teams side by side.

Table and Grid show several participants in a list.

If you select several users, teams, or departments, check the preview to make sure the layout shows the data the way you expect.

Step 4 – Choose the variant

Under Variant, choose how the target should be displayed.

Choose Standard to show progress towards the target.

Choose Difference to show how much is left to reach the target.

Step 5 – Choose who appears on the slide

Use Filter display data to choose which departments, teams, or users appear on the slide.

You can also use Select by emails to select users by email address.

Users without a target for the selected metric and period are not included on target-based slides when the slide uses targets from Manage → Targets.

Step 6 – Check how several users are calculated

If you select several users, teams, or departments in Filter display data, the selected layout controls whether the slide shows the results combined or separated.

With the Number layout, the slide shows one combined result for the selected users, teams, or departments.

With a Custom Goal: The combined value of everyone on the slide is measured against the Custom Goal.

With targets from Manage → Targets: The slide only includes users who have a target for the selected metric and period.

If some selected users do not have a target, they are not included in the target-based progress.

If none of the selected users have a target, the slide shows no progress towards a target.

Step 7 – Preview and save

Check the preview on the right side of the editor.

Make sure that:

  • The correct metric is selected

  • The correct period is selected

  • The target looks right

  • The selected users, teams, or departments are shown correctly

  • The layout shows the data the way you want

Click Save changes.

The slide is updated on all screens that use a playlist containing the slide.

Refresh the playlist if needed

The slide normally updates after you save your changes.

If the screen has been running for a long time and still shows the old version, go to the Playlists tab and click the reload icon on the playlist to refresh the screen.

What if this doesn’t work?

The Custom Goal option is missing

Custom Goal is only available on Single metric slides.

Check the slide type in the Type column on the Slides tab.

The Custom Goal field is greyed out

The field is only available when Custom Goal is set to Yes.

Set Custom Goal to Yes, then enter the value.

The slide shows a different target than expected

Check whether Custom Goal is set to Yes or No.

If Custom Goal is set to Yes, the slide uses the value entered on the slide.

If Custom Goal is set to No, the slide uses the target from Manage → Targets for the slide’s period.

The slide shows no target or no progress

Check that Measure towards target is set to Yes.

If Custom Goal is set to No, check that at least one of the users on the slide has a target for the selected metric and period in Manage → Targets.

The total is lower than expected, or some users are missing

If Custom Goal is set to No, users without a target for the selected metric and period are not included on the slide.

Add targets for those users in Manage → Targets, or check that they are included in Filter display data.

See Why can't I find a user in a target-based list, widget, slide, or report?

The screen still shows the old version

If the screen has been running for a long time, go to the Playlists tab and click the reload icon on the playlist to refresh the screens.
