In this article, we’ll walk you through the basics of setting up your own Competition with SalesScreen. Motivating your team has never been easier or more exciting!

Getting Started

Select <<Competitions>> from the left side menu. Click <<Create New>> in the upper right corner:

You can choose between one of two main competition types— Standard, which simply measures which players can deliver the most of your chosen metric within a given time period, or Custom Target, in which competitors win by obtaining the highest percentage based on a custom targets. Winners are announced when the time runs out based on the highest percentage completion of set targets, or you can announce the winners as the custom target is achieved. This competition is great when members of your staff have different delivery expectations from one another. For example, new employees are usually expected to deliver less than senior, so a Custom Target Competition lets them compete on a custom target that you set to level the playing field. Select one by clicking on it, choose a visual theme from the options that appear, and then hit the <<Select>> button that appears to the right.

Customizing a Standard Competition

1.) Participants — Your team members will appear in a list with a green plus sign next to each name. You can click which ones you would like to include in the competition individually, or click the “Add All” button above to quickly include everyone! Added users will be moved into the right column with a red minus sign that you can click to remove them from the competition if necessary. When all the desired players have been added to the righthand side, click the right arrow at the bottom of the screen to move to the next step.

2.) Settings — Now it’s time to set the win conditions for the competition! You will be asked to set the following:

Title - Pick something fun and attention catching— remember that you can use emojis! 🏆🏅🔥

Description - A quick summary of the goal/win conditions of the competition.

Period - The duration of the competition. You can choose Today, This Week, This Month, or Custom, which will allow you to set a date range of your choice.

Metric - This is what your team will actually be competing on— pick a metric that you want to see go up!

Show Top X - This controls how many rankings your competition leaderboard will show. It’s best to pick a number small enough so that inclusion on the leaderboard is meaningful, but large enough that your average players will all feel like they have a shot at getting their name on it!

When you have all the settings the way you want them, click the right arrow at the bottom of the screen.

3.) Prizes — Make things more interesting for your players by setting the stakes for the winners! First, choose how many prizes will be given out. Default settings include 1, 2, or 3 prizes, or an automatic calculation of the top 10%, 25%, or 50% of competitors. There is also a space where you can input your own number of prizes. Then, add the prizes themselves by clicking the <<Create>> button in the middle of the screen. In the following popup, you will be asked to upload and save an image for the prize, and set a title and description. You can also check the <<Threshold>> box if you want to make sure there is a minimum standard set for receiving the prize, regardless of where the winner falls on the leaderboard. If you’re feeling stuck, click the <<Suggestions>> tab at the top of the popup window for some fun ideas with associated templates to use! When your prizes are set, use the right arrow at the bottom of the screen to move forward.

4.) Finish — On the final page, you will see have the option to Publish immediately or Save as draft.

If you choose Publish immediately:

Choose which playlists and feeds you would like to publish your competition to on the two dropdown lists. Use the four toggles to select whether you want to show competition events (announcements on screens of when competitions start and end, or when a new player takes the lead), and whether you want to send an email to participants at the competition start, halfway mark, and/or competition completion.

When you have configured these settings the way you want them, click the Add competition button at the bottom of the screen and you’re done! Your new competition can be viewed at any time from the Competitions section of the left menu.

If you choose Save as draft:

You will be taken to the draft view of your competition to preview.

You can leave the competition in draft form for as long as you like, and find it again later by going to Competitions and the clicking the Draft tab. On the Draft Competition’s listing, you will see the option to Publish. Note that you can not publish the competition from inside the draft!

If you click Publish, you will receive all the same publishing and email notification options as you would have if you had published right away. When you have selected the settings you want, click Confirm (or Cancel to wait until later).

Once confirmed, your Competition will be available to view under Competitions > Active!
